My senior year in High school was the time of my life. My teammates and me had enjoyed tremendous success both the football and baseball fields and I was entering the next phase of my life. All that changed in 2011. I was involved in a car accident that left me paralyzed from the shoulders down. Five years later, I still live with chronic pain in my back and suffer from constant muscle spasms, some are incredibly painful.
Of course, I was prescribed painkillers to help manage my daily pain and discomfort. Looking back- the amount of medication I was taking was incredible.
I was prescribed up to 360 synthetic painkillers each month.
The opiates helped with pain but were destroying my insides and making me feel foggy and lost. It was like they robbed me of even more of who I am.
I finally decided to give medical cannabis a try once it was available and it changed my life. I can finally take something that naturally works with my body and doesn’t give me the side effects of prescription drugs. Now I don’t feel like I have to trade one type of relief for another especially my independence.
